Working as a fellow with The Body Agency Collective during Spring 2026 was a highly valuable experience that enhanced my professional skills and deepened my passion for public health advocacy. During this fellowship, I contributed to a project aimed at reducing HIV-related stigma in Southern Africa. This work provided me with a deeper understanding of how stigma, misinformation, and social inequalities continue to affect HIV prevention and care in vulnerable communities. The experience prompted me to think critically about how culturally responsive public health initiatives can foster lasting change and improve health outcomes.
During the fellowship, I developed hands-on skills in crowdfunding, grant writing, and nonprofit communications. I contributed to creating a webpage and digital content for an organization working with TBAC, gaining insights into how clear communication can educate communities, increase engagement, and promote public health efforts. This experience enhanced my ability to translate complex public health issues into accessible content for diverse audiences. It also emphasized the value of strategic partnerships and community-focused strategies in addressing global health challenges.
What impacted me most was understanding the intersectionality of HIV, gender-based violence, stigma, and wider social determinants of health. Working with team members from varied backgrounds encouraged me to approach public health issues with creativity and openness. I enjoyed brainstorming, learning new skills, and engaging in meaningful discussions focused on sustainable solutions. This fellowship not only advanced my professional growth but also strengthened my commitment to becoming a public health advocate dedicated to health equity and improving outcomes for underserved populations.
