This past semester, I had the incredible opportunity to serve as a policy fellow with March of Dimes, a leading nonprofit dedicated to improving the health of mothers and infants across the country. In my role, I dove headfirst into the world of maternal and child health policy. As a policy fellow, my work included drafting letters to members of Congress, writing bill summaries, and compiling policy priority reports for Virginia and Maryland.
Beyond my day-to-day policy work, one of the most rewarding parts of my fellowship was the people at March of Dimes! Working alongside a passionate and dedicated team of Maternal and Child Health professionals reinforced why the work we do matters. I was inspired by their commitment and advocacy. Another highlight of my fellowship was volunteering at the March for Babies, an annual charity walk raising funds to address the maternal and infant health crisis in the US. I loved spending the day alongside families who shared their personal stories and it served as a powerful reminder of the reason I advocate.
As I look ahead to my career as a public health professional and physician assistant, I am so grateful to March of Dimes for this experience! It has been a meaningful step on the path to the work I hope to spend my life doing.
