FGM/C Initiative

Our work has contributed to:

• The development of an evidence-based educational toolkit for FGM/C survivors, health care providers, educators, and community members
• The advancement and passage of federal legislation addressing FGM/C, in partnership with a congresswoman from Texas
• Continued advocacy for state-level legislation
• The creation of a DMV-based coalition
• The founding of a national alliance focused on ending FGM/C
• International research and partnership work in Sri Lanka

The FGM/C Technical Assistance and Training Center works to end female genital mutilation/cutting through education, research, policy advocacy, coalition building, and community engagement. Our work centers survivors and translates public health evidence into meaningful action at the local, state, federal, and global levels.

Our work began with the development of educational resources and has expanded into policy and advocacy. We collaborate with survivors, policymakers, researchers, health professionals, educators, and community organizations to strengthen prevention efforts and promote culturally responsive support.

Our policy work has grown from federal advocacy to state-level action. Following the passage of federal legislation addressing FGM/C, we have continued supporting legislative efforts across the United States.

We also helped establish a DMV coalition and are founding members of a national alliance working to coordinate advocacy, education, prevention, and survivor support.

Our global work examines FGM/C across diverse cultural, legal, and public health contexts, including research and partnerships in Sri Lanka. Through international collaboration, we share knowledge and support culturally grounded, community-led approaches to prevention and survivor care.

The FGM/C Educational Toolkit provides evidence-based information and resources for survivors, health care providers, educators, and community members.
