My experience this semester at The Body Agency Collective has been so enjoyable and rewarding. Going into this Fellowship I was excited to learn more about the range of incredible work that the Collective is a part of and spearheading. I had the opportunity to work alongside three other fellows on the gender based violence work that the Collective was working on over the course of this semester.
I did not have much prior experience in the gender based violence space, and was inspired by all the extraordinary work being done by the team at the Collective. The project I am most proud of during my time at The Body Agency Collective is the film screening we hosted. The other fellows and I were able to put on a screening of the To Kill a Tiger documentary right here at Milken. This documentary shows the incredible grit and fortitude that a father shows after his daughter is gang raped. It speaks to the potential positive impact that men can have on their loved ones who experience gender based violence. This film is a call to action and a demonstration of the impact that an individual can have on their community.
It was truly an amazing experience to work with my fellow classmates on this project and see the process of event planning on this scale first hand. Working alongside Kate and Allison was truly inspiring and their energy was contagious! I will bring the knowledge of how an idea can take form into a full-fledged successful event into my career. I am particularly proud that our screening, which included a panel discussion of experts (including the documentary’s director!!), had such an amazing turnout. It was so meaningful to see the GW community, from Milken and beyond, come together around this urgent issue and make strides to spark conversations and change.
My experience at The Body Agency Collective was a remarkable one, and I am so grateful to have worked with the team to help make a difference in gender based violence. Much work still remains, but I am so inspired by the work this team is doing to help move the needle in the right direction!
