This summer, I had the amazing opportunity to be an intern at The Body Agency, a for-profit and non-for- profit organization working to improve sexual and reproductive health in women and young girls both locally and internationally. The team at The Body Agency truly has a passion for changing the way we talk and learn about reproductive and sexual health, and it shows in the many programs they have taken the time to build.
During my time at The Body Agency, I worked to create social media content on topics ranging from reproductive justice to period poverty. I also joined The Body Agency’s group on the Inspire platform, which is a space created for people to be in community and learn from one another on varying topics. The different communities are so inspiring, and it was amazing to see the ways in which communities rallied around their members as they expressed the joys, frustrations, and struggles of sexual health, motherhood, and so much more. This summer, The Body Agency team had a fantastic opportunity to travel to Rwanda and partner with a women’s summit and different organizations on the ground working to improve young girl’s reproductive health. I helped research and create an informative background document on the history of Rwanda and some of the cultural practices and important pieces around sexual health within the country. The Body Agency is truly a great organization to be partnered with for your practicum or internship. My piece of advice for anyone thinking of applying or coming into the position: take your passions and figure out ways to incorporate them into your role; the team is very supportive and is always looking for new ideas and ways to grow in their knowledge and to increase thier reach to the community!
