Britney Owusu-Dapaah- Summer/Fall 2024 Fellowship Experience

The Body Agency

Britney
I have the pleasure of working with the Body Agency for my MCH CoE Fellowship during the Summer and Fall 2024 semesters. The Body Agency is composed of two divisions, "The Body Agency” and the non-profit subsection called “The Body Agency Collective”. Both entities strive to empower young girls and women by stimulating candid conversations regarding gender inequities, reproductive health conditions, and mental health. The Body Agency is a trailblazer within the reproductive health world, leading the charge of destigmatizing these topics. Through media advocacy, an interdisciplinary podcast called “Sex, Body, and Soul”, as well as handcrafted dignity kits for people ranging from puberty to menopause, The Body Agency is revolutionizing sexual and reproductive wellness!

My fellowship with The Body Agency has provided me the opportunity to build a new skill set of content creation, advocacy, and research about MCH related current events. I have fine tuned my expertise in sexual health education while broadening my interests in topics such as gender equality, period poverty, and contraception access. Additionally, I played an instrumental part in the collection of data and creation of toolkit materials for the The BodyNEXT campaign that works to provide people of all genders with medically accurate information about their bodies. Lastly, I have contributed to the “Boy For Girl Effect” campaign, urging boys and men to assist in the effort to change harmful gender norms that put girls and women at a disadvantage, hoping to create more equitable environments. I am eager to take part in upcoming projects and am super grateful for this fellowship experience. I am confident that I will take the many skills and fresh perspectives into my blossoming public health career!
